About the Cool Summer Run

In 2016 we launched the very first "Cool Summer Run" trail race in East London. Last year in 2017 River Kidzone hosted the "Cool Summer Run" on the Silver Seed Farm in tribute of Derrill Hempel. This being the 2nd event running seeing close to 400 athletes take the start line. The event was a great success as people, children and families had fun, were challenged by the route, which is Eastern Cape's toughest 5km & 10km courses. The athletes all felt that they had accomplished something great when they completed the tough and challenging race. After the previous year's successful events the "Cool Summer Run" in tribute of Derrill Hempel has become an annual race on the Border Athletics Race Calendar.

The "Cool Summer Run" is aimed at raising funds to enable River Kidzone to reach out to the children in the Eastern Cape who are either orphaned, abandoned, neglected, rejected, or suffering from an illness or chronic disease or do not have a healthy family life, loss of a father and/or mother figure, verbal or physical abuse in the home, as well as visiting oncology wards.

Our vision, as part of the River Kidzone, is to reach out to these children and families to make a difference in their lives by getting the community involved and supporting what can change a child's life for a healthier and better future. All these children want is to know that they are loved and appreciated and cared for, and have a place where they feel they belong. At River Kidzone we aim at helping children live their God given purpose.

As mentioned above River Kidzone will be hosting the "Cool Summer Run" on the beautiful farm known as the "Silver Seed Farm" situated 14km's outside East London on the N2 between East London and Stutterheim. The "Silver Seed Farm" was owned by Derrill & Alison Hempel, who bought into the vision of the River Kidzone from the very beginning. The farm is now owned by brother-in-law Shaun Gouws whose heart is in it for the children as well as to help fund and make a difference in these children's lives.

The "Cool Summer Run" will take place 6 October 2018 and start at 13:00pm in the afternoon. Earlier start than previous years so all athletes are home in time for the Springboks and All Blacks game. This is a trail run and will consist of the following distances: a 2km, 5km and 10km trail run with breath-taking views. There will be market stalls selling freshly homemade baked and cooked foods as well as refreshments at the start and finish shoot area.

It will be an exciting time for the children as we introduce our very own Christian Superhero, "FAITHMAN", who will be flying around the start of the race along with other mascots. There will also be jumping castles, face painting, and other entertainment for the children.

Sponsorship - The "Cool Summer Run" team and athletes will be wearing the sponsor branded T-shirt on the day of the race as well as all athletes taking part. All sponsors get poster coverage and race shirt advertising. All sponsors will be required to come sit in on the CSR tv set for a 20-30 minute segment to push the brand, company, or business. (Any video adverts or footage would be an added extra for your benefit). The footage will be captured weeks before leading up to race day as pre-race build up footage. This year we will be doing things different and pushing your brand in a more effective way so you as a company, brand or business can greatly benefit from partnering with us.

A FM Radio Station will be hosted at the race and the Sponsors will get airtime mentions on the FM station when advertising the "Cool Summer Run" leading up to the event as well as on posters, flyers, video clip adds on social media, our YouTube channel as well as pre-race teaser footage and on Faith Broadcasting Network DStv channel 341.

The cost per race participant:

5km = R120ea which includes your goodie bag and CSR t-shirt to first 200 entrants only.
10km = R120ea which includes your goodie bag and CSR t-shirt to first 100 entrants only.
2km = R60ea which includes a CSR buff to first 100 entrants (also includes treats on race day for the children participating in the 2km treat trail).

We are expectant for a great turnout and we believe that many children and families will benefit from this year's event. Our hearts are to give back to the community of the Eastern Cape area and to reach out to the children in ensuring they live a healthy, joyful and Christ centred life.
